Why laundry sheets do not belong in a dishwasher
- Different job. Laundry detergent is made to release dirt and oil from fabric fibers. Dishwasher detergent is made for food, grease and glassware in a spray of hot water.
- Suds. Dishwashers are built for detergent that makes almost no foam. Extra suds can spill from the door and leave a film.
- Residue. Anything not made for dishes may leave a film on plates and cups that you then eat from.
Already ran one? What to do
- Stop the cycle and wipe or scoop out any suds.
- Run a rinse-only cycle with the dishwasher empty, and repeat if suds remain.
- Rewash the dishes with dishwasher detergent.
- If water leaked, check your dishwasher's manual before running it again.
Laundry sheets vs dishwasher sheets
Some brands sell dishwasher sheets. They look similar but are a different product with a different formula. Check the pack: if it says laundry, it is for clothes.
Spot makes laundry detergent sheets only. They work in every washing machine, in a sink or basin by hand, and at the laundromat.
Frequently asked questions
Can laundry sheets damage a dishwasher?
They are not made for it. Too many suds can leak from the door. If it happens, run empty rinse cycles until the suds clear and check the manual.
Can I wash dishes by hand with a laundry sheet?
We do not recommend it. Use dish soap for dishes and Spot for clothes.
Does Spot make dishwasher sheets?
No. Spot makes laundry detergent sheets only.
Where can I use Spot laundry sheets?
In any washing machine, front-load or top-load, HE or standard, in a sink or basin for hand washing, and at the laundromat.
