How to hand wash with a detergent sheet
- Fill a sink, basin or bucket with water at the temperature the care label allows. Cold is fine.
- Tear off a piece of sheet and swish it in the water until it dissolves, which takes under a minute.
- Add your clothes and squeeze the soapy water through them for a few minutes. Work stains gently with your fingers.
- Drain, refill with clean water and rinse until the water runs clear.
- Press out the water. Do not wring delicate fabrics; roll them in a towel instead, then hang or lay flat to dry.

How much sheet to use
Spot's smallest machine dose is half a sheet for a small load. A sink holds far less water and fewer clothes than a washer drum, so start with a smaller piece: tear the half again. Add more only if the water does not feel soapy. Too much detergent just means more rinsing.
| What you are washing | Starting dose |
|---|---|
| A few items in a bathroom sink | A quarter of a sheet |
| A basin or bucket of clothes | Half a sheet |
| A heavily soiled bucketful (hiking, sports) | One sheet |
Hand washing on the road
Sheets are dry, flat and weigh almost nothing, so they are the easiest detergent to travel with. There is no liquid, so airport liquid limits do not apply.
- Carry a few sheets in a zip bag so they stay dry.
- A sink stopper or a flat universal stopper turns any hotel sink into a basin.
- Wash in the evening and hang clothes overnight.
- One Spot buyer took sheets on a weeks-long trip and got muddy hiking pants very clean in ice-cold water.
Frequently asked questions
Can you use laundry sheets in the sink?
Yes. Dissolve a piece of sheet in a sink of water, wash your clothes, then rinse in clean water. Spot dissolves in under 60 seconds in cold, warm or hot water.
Do you have to rinse after hand washing with a sheet?
Yes. Rinse in clean water until it runs clear, as you would with any detergent.
Can I hand wash delicates with detergent sheets?
Follow the care label. Use cool water, a small piece of sheet and gentle squeezing rather than wringing.
Can I bring laundry sheets on a plane?
Yes. They are not liquid, so they can go in your carry-on or checked bag without counting toward liquid limits.
