What independent reviewers found
- CNN Underscored named Spot the Best Budget Laundry Detergent Sheets and called the sheets very capable cleaners.
- Apartment Therapy called Spot the most compact laundry detergent ever.
- Practical Travel Gear called Spot perfect for laundry when traveling.
- Consumer Reports tested 14 laundry detergent sheets in 2026 (as reported by House Digest). The top-scoring sheet removed blood, grass and dirt but not coffee and chocolate, and the testers said sheets are not better than liquid in all respects.
The pattern across reviewers: sheets win on convenience, storage, travel and packaging, and they clean everyday laundry well. Like any detergent, they need help on set-in stains.
What Spot buyers praise
Spot is rated 4.4 out of 5 on Amazon, and 74% of ratings are five stars. The same themes come up again and again in verified reviews:
- Easy to lift. A 75-year-old buyer wrote that lifting a huge plastic detergent container off the floor had become too difficult, and that nothing is better than Spot.
- Clean results. A self-described skeptic washed a heavily soiled white towel and was surprised by how bright the white was after the wash.
- Dorms and travel. One parent wrote that their son loves the sheets at college; another buyer carried sheets in a zip bag for a weeks-long trip and got muddy hiking pants clean in ice-cold water.
- No heavy perfume. Buyers describe the Fresh Linen scent as fresh without being overpowering.
- Less plastic. Spot ships in a recyclable paper envelope instead of a jug.
Common complaints, and the fix
| Complaint | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Sheet stuck to the drum | Sheet placed against the washer wall | Mix the sheet in with the clothes or lay it on top |
| Residue on clothes | Washer packed too tight | Leave room for water to move; do not overload |
| Stain still there | Set-in or heavy stain | Pre-treat first and use two sheets for heavily soiled loads |
| Wanted unscented | Spot is Fresh Linen scented | Check the scent before you buy any brand |
How to read detergent sheet reviews
- Prefer verified-purchase reviews and named publications that tested the product.
- Check who sold it. Buy from the brand's own site or a major retailer, not an unknown marketplace seller.
- Compare cost per load, not pack price. Brands count loads differently.
- Read the 1-star reviews. If most are about a stuck sheet or an overfull washer, that is a placement problem, not a cleaning one.
